Clinically-Proven Cream for Pigmentation and Dark Spots

Crystal Tomato® Skin Clarity Cream is a topical skincare cream for pigmentation and dark spots. A randomised, split-face clinical study by the Skin Research Institute of Singapore (SRIS, A*STAR) evaluated Skin Clarity Cream against Kligman's Formula, and additional independent studies were conducted by Eurofins Dermscan Pharmascan (France) and DeNova Sciences. This page explains how those studies were run, what they found, and what the results mean.

The Study at a Glance

The SRIS (A*STAR) study enrolled 30 participants in a randomised, split-face design over 56 days. Each participant applied Skin Clarity Cream to one side of the face and Kligman's Formula - containing tretinoin 0.05%, hydroquinone 4% and fluocinolone 0.01% - to the other, so each participant served as their own control. Clinical assessments were carried out at Days 14, 28 and 56.

A separate efficacy study at Eurofins Dermscan Pharmascan (France) assessed 29 women aged 47 to 66 (average age 56) over 56 days of twice-daily use at home, with instrumental measurements at Days 14, 28 and 56: skin hydration by Corneometer®, wrinkle depth at the crow's foot by 3D Primos Lite®, skin suppleness by Cutometer®, and skin radiance by spectrophotometer.

In the randomised, split-face study at SRIS (A*STAR), Skin Clarity Cream produced a 47.5% improvement in mean mMASI by Day 28 - a reduction in the assessed area and severity of melasma pigmentation.

What this means: mMASI assesses both the area affected by melasma and its severity. The result describes a change in that clinical score, rather than a percentage change in skin colour.

• In a separate clinical trial, Skin Clarity Cream showed measurable improvements in skin brightness at Day 28, with further visible reduction in pigmentation and enhanced radiance by Day 56.

Separate efficacy assessments reported visibly smoother wrinkles and a downward trend in skin-aging AGEs (Advanced Glycation End-products). The reported AGE changes did not reach statistical significance at the 0.05 threshold (Day 14: p = 0.09; Day 56: p = 0.10). In user assessments, 82% of participants reported improved suppleness and elasticity, and 78% reported a more even-toned, luminous complexion.

What this means: The wrinkle and user-assessment findings describe changes in skin appearance and perceived skin quality. The AGE findings are exploratory and should not be interpreted as a demonstrated anti-glycation effect.

Skin Clarity Cream was well tolerated in the split-face study, with reported treatment-related irritation assessed as mild. Separate testing also evaluated the formulation for non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic properties. Designed for daily use, the formulation is suitable for sensitive and blemish-prone skin.
